The history of brilliant

The history of brilliant can be traced to the late middle Ages. It is said that the first brilliant was manufactured by L. de Berkem in 1454. Ludwig van Berkem (Lui de Berkem) was a court jeweler of Duke Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy. The Duke was known as a bellicose person and he immediately found application for diamonds on the battlefield. Charles ordered to decorate the armor with diamonds to make enemies inspired of fear by glitter of the gems.

What is the carat?

Carat it is a pod of a carob tree. Seeds of this tree were used as a unit of measurement of mass and volume and to measure the purity of gold as well.


The most common shape of brilliant is the round shape.

Clarity is a quality of diamonds relating to the existence and visual appearances of inclusions and surface defects.

Chemically pure and structurally perfect diamond is perfectly transparent with no hue or color.
